Ask the expert

Is it normal for my cat to vomit hairballs?
Ask the Vet
Hairballs are accumulated hair that cats swallow while doing their normal grooming routine. Vomiting between one to four hairballs a month isn’t reason for worrying. Although normal, this behavior should be avoided. The cat should be groomed daily, so that loose hair doesn’t accumulates and end up in the cat’s stomach.

Repeatedly vomits, vomiting more often than usual, or vomiting more than 4 times a month could be related to other health problem than hairballs, and the cat should be taken to the vet.
