Hi
I recently "inherited" a goldfish in a bowl from a friend who had to move to another country. I wouldn't have bought one for myself but I agreed just to help out. The trouble is, I don't really know what's best for her and I'm often away. I worry constantly that she'll die in my care. (soppy me) I change the water as often as I can, every 2-3 days as there is no filter or pump. I feed her twice a day. She swims close to the surface and gasps so I suppose she's not getting enough oxygen in the water. I bought some oxygenating tablets to put in the water but they don't seem to have made any difference. I also bought some water cleaning crystals but that hasn't made much difference either. No one I know wants to adopt her from me. I don't want to go down the getting a tank route, like I said, pets are not really for me and besides, I read that goldfish like to be with other fish. What would any of you do in my situation? I wouldn't mind keeping her if i could make her "happy."
Really you need a pump, even one with an airstone would work.
You must use water conditioner on the water changes and dont change more then half the water at any time, good bacteria lives in the original water.
Goldfish can survive quite happily for a week without food, overfeeding is the biggest killer for fish.
Enjoy your new friend!
