The Thoroughbred is one of the most popular horse breeds of today and also one of the more expensive worldwide.
During the 16th century, Henry VIII and his daughter Elizabeth I, starting to import Iberian horses to cross with the native ones. As horse racing began to attract more people and more money, many noblemen started breeding programs to achieve the ultimate racer.
At the time, three Arab studs were brought to England: the Byerley Turk (1684), the Darley Arabian (1704) and the Gogolphim Arabian. These three studs would be the pillars for the Thoroughbred. They were crossed with England mares that already had Iberian blood.
The Thoroughbred was only “baptized” in the 19th century.
