The breed as we know it today was formed when the invading Romans brought European horses with them, leaving stallions to roam with the native ponies.The breed is beleived to be made up of Freisan, German, French, Polish, Spanish, and Celtic horses. Good weight carriers.

General Appearance [ edit ]
Fell Ponies have an incredible stamina, they are very sue footed and very kind. The prominent colour is black, although bays, browns and greys are recognized. Never exceeding 14hh, Fell Ponies have big, intelligent and kind eyes, deep body and solid bone in the leg. Manes should be full and naturally long, as are tails.
