The Dales has a neat and pony like head, broad between the eyes, witch should be bright and alert. Pony ears slightly incurving, long fortop of straight hair down the face. The neck is strong and of ample length with a throat and jaw of clean cut and long flowing main.

The shoulders are well-laid, long and sloping, with well developed muscles. The withers aren’t to fine. The body is short-coupled and deep through the chest, with well sprung ribs. The hindquarters are deep, lengthy and powerful. The second thighs are well developed and very muscular. The tail is well set on, not to high, with plenty of long straight hair reaching the floor. The hocks are broad, flat and clean, well let down with plenty of dense flat bone. As for the forearms, they are set square. Short and very muscular, they have broad and well developed knees with flexible joints.

The colours predominantly seen are black, brown, bay and grey.
Markings are allowed: a white star or/and a snip on the head and white fetlocks on the hinds only.

The Dales has a true pony character: alert, high-couraged, intellegent and kind!
