The Boerboel guards his family, friends and property with his life. When the owners are not at home he will not allow anyone to enter the house, unless he knows the person very well. Boerboels will do okay with other dogs, cats and other non-canine pets, even letting birds come down and snatch food from their bowls! This breed requires an experienced owner.

The head is very important since it reveals the dog´s character. It must be short, broad, deep and square shaped. The short, dense, sleek coat comes in cream white, pale tawny, reddish brown, and all shades of brindle.
