Cats that swim????

It came to my attention recently that there is a breed of cat that actually enjoys having a bath.....

The Turkish van breed, pictured below,  is believed to have originated in the eastern part of Turkey which is also known as Eastern Anatolia. Because they were "discovered" by two Englishwomen (Sonia Halliday and Laura Lushington) in the 1950s near Lake Van, they were named the Turkish Van cats.

In the hot Turkish summers, they were known to bathe and cool off in rivers and laked of the Van region, and the breed still holds a cashmere like, water resistant texture to it's coat, as well as a fascination with water. Other strange characteristics of this breed is their high level of playfulness. They often like to fetch and play like a dog, and have also been known to pant like a dog!

A quick dip to cool off...........
