My name is Kenai and I was born on 4th November 2003.
I was specially bred by Merseyside police to be a Police dog and when I was just 10 weeks old my new Dad came to pick me up and took me to my new home. It was great! I slept in a big cage in the house and there were two little people who played with me all the time.
When I was about five months old my Dad took me outside and showed me my new house. It was a big wooden kennel at the end of the garden. I soon settled in and I love to lie down on the shelf and look out over the garden.
Pretty soon I began to meet up with my two brothers, Kurt and Kruger and also my sister Kova. We started to play lots of games with our handlers it was great fun.
When I was one year old, my dad started to take me into work with him every day and we did lots and lots of hard training. Thirteen weeks later I got a nice certificate which said I had passed my course and i was now a real police dog. I was really proud because my dad was a police dog and so was his dad before him.
I now work on the Wirral and so does my sister Kova, i meet her at work sometimes.
My day
I am now nearly three and I love being a police dog. First thing in the morning I get taken out for a nice walk and my dad gives my coat a brush. Later in the day we will go into work and I get to ride around in the back of the police car.
Every so often my dad gets me out of the car quickly and i get very excited. I have a really good sense of smell and I find it really easy to sniff people out. When I find people hiding, I just bark as loud as I can and let my dad know.
I like finding people hiding because i always get a reward from my dad for working hard. Sometimes we have to go out in the dark. I found this a bit scary at first but i'm used to it now.
My job
Sometimes when we go on foot patrol in the town centre, some people try to stroke me but my Dad wont let them - I'm a police dog you know, I've got a job to do!
Sometimes my dad takes me into schools and I get to meet all the children. I show them some of the tricks I was taught as a puppy. I enjoy this because they always give me biscuits in schools!
Foxfield school in Moreton even adopted me when I was a puppy.
At the end of the day I am always tired and ready for my bed. My dad gives me my dinner and takes me for a last walk and then I bed down. I fall asleep wondering what adventures I will have the following day.
